Country Ghana – I wonder the attacks and threat the BBC journalist, Peter Okwoche would have been subjected to if he was a media practitioner in Ghana…………

A recently held interview involving President Nana Addo and Peter Okwoche of BBC have gained widespread debate both locally and internationally on several news platforms.

The said interview which has been described by many people as shambolic , saw Ghana’s oratory President struggling to provide cogent answers to simple texts and questions by the journalist in a very distasteful and unpalatable faction.

Ironically, a seemingly ‘ working President’ who touts his achievements as enviable was seen struggling to give cogent answers to very elementary questions by the host during the said interview.

I was really taken aback listening to Nana Addo in a very discomfort posture swerving details to open led questions over his own achievements in government. In fact

What the NPP and government fails to note is that the world has become a global village and Ghana is equally in the eyes of the international radar.

The handlers of the President did more harm to him than good. And this affirms the perception that they always expose him to public redicle.

What business did the President had to make frivolous comparisons relative to world economies in line with the so called ravages of covid 19 ? A recent world bank report revealed about staggering & 530 million has gone missing and unaccounted for.

Ghanaians have not forgotten the rot in the 2020 auditor general’s reports which said nearly Ghc 12.8 also not found. And till date absolutely nothing has been done about it.

Nana Addo’s performance in government grows daily from one corruption scandal to the other.

The unscrupulous deals at the presidency and many state -owned- enterprises are public knowledge.

The much publicized family and friends mantra is there for all to see. Indeed a government who pride its deliverables as one of the best amongst the lost should not struggle to accounts on any day to the very people they claim to have been serving and even persons at the diaspora on who’s foreign remittances is earmarked as support to the fragile and ailing economy.

Yes! Mr. President you failed to outshine the very thing your Communicators and appointees claim to have control upon, and that’s your much touted economic fundamentals of six years into your reign .

Did Nana Addo forgot that renting over $18,000 private jet to the US is the ears of the international community? And that if a credible news agency like the BBC prey on it , our eloquent and oratory President will be no where to be found?

Did the President also forgot that , the over 8 months long debates over the e Levy has gained weight and very topical not only on Ghana but on the international media too? As from May , 2022 1.5% Levy will be slapped on Momo..but the President sees nothing wrong. After all he is a beneficiary of Article 71 office holder as catalog in the 1992 constitution.

Folks is the President aware that, the posture by the Apex court on the land , the supreme Court, in determining outcomes of sensitive cases ( most of whom political) in a serialized unanimous manner, also reduces confidence in the investor community , and that a media giant like the BBC will not allow such storyline to slip once he , the President was before the hot seat?

Comrades it is trite to note that, the BBC interview is very uninspiring and speaks of a King who appeared unprepared to address a gathering who were equally upbeat and we’ll conditioned to hear from their master.

I wonder what inspired President Nana Addo to subtly attack the BBC journo when he subjected answers provided to his questions to scrutiny. I ask whether the President did exhibit some level of emotional intelligence, taking into cognisant the platform and the opportunity accorded him by the British State Broadcaster.

E-Levy – Here is a rundown of exchanges to be impacted

The government communication machinery must do the needful by even apologizing to Ghanaians as well as those at the diaspora over the failure by the President to show maturity and diplomacy to the international community.

His predecessors like Late Jerry Rawlings, John Evans Atta Mills (late) John Agyekum Kuffour, John Mahama, at least under the 4th republic have all granted foreign interviews which yielded positives to the country.

Historical facts also supports this precedent. Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah , Ghana’s first President, pre and post colonial eras similarly granted interviews to the likes of many international media / journalists which positioned the country into global limelight.

President Akufo Addo’s demeaning attitude toward the BBC only affirms the posture he show journalists back home in Ghana. A government with the worst form of human right abuses ever in history. The late Ahmed Suale in mind.

But for journalists in Europe money and ‘kickbacks’ is not everything and no coffee shop mafias to stage – managed arranged interviews for the President, like he used to during the meet the press session with Frontline media practitioners in Ghana.

Indeed the weak and systemic failures in the NPP led government, have reduced the confidence of our President internationally, and that is obviously not what we expected.
