Tuesday, May 14, 2024: Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai talks during a Google I/O event in Mountain View, California. The business unveiled a new overview tool for AI search results; however, some fake results have since been brought to their attention.
Google said that its new AI search tools would “do the work for you” and simplify and expedite the process of locating content online. However, the corporation is already reversing some factually inaccurate findings, only a few days after the introduction.
Earlier this month, Google unveiled an AI-generated tool for summarizing search results, saving consumers the trouble of clicking through numerous links to quickly get the answers to their inquiries. However, this week the function came under fire for answering some users’ questions with inaccurate or misleading information.
For instance, a number of people reported on X that, contrary to popular belief, Google’s AI summary claimed that former President Barack Obama is a Muslim. Obama is actually a Christian. A Google AI summary, shared by another user, claimed that “none of Africa’s 54 recognized countries start with the letter ‘K,'” obviously excluding Kenya.
