Former Black Starlets midfielder Sebastian Barnes

The 1991 U-17 World Cup champion confessed during an interview with Oscar Nuwati on SVTV Sports that he had been called disrespectful due of his haircut and ear piercing. He claims that former Black Stars coach Otto Pfister informed him that the leaders frequently made disparaging remarks about him.

Every football player would feel guilty about not making the national squad. You won’t be able to proceed if you are weak. Prior to Senegal 1992, Otto Pfister contacted and told me that whenever my name was mentioned, the leaders always had something to say.

While working at Bayer Leverkusen, I was the first to have such hairstyle and ear piercing. Because of the hairstyle, they would always treat me disrespectfully whenever I visited Ghana. Even though you are talented, they won’t even call you. I never received a call-up because of this, he admitted.
