Last year, Google announced plans to make Pixel smartphones in India, beginning with the Pixel 8.
“India is a priority market for Pixel smartphones, and we’re committed to bringing the best of our hardware and underlying built-in software capabilities to people across the country,” it wrote on its blog.
The BBC was informed on Friday by sources that Alphabet’s Google will start producing Pixel smartphones at the Tamil Nadu factory, with advanced models to be produced there later this year.
According to the insider, Google and Foxconn have a deal in place to achieve this.
There are presently two Foxconn locations in Tamil Nadu. It assembles Apple’s iPhones at one of its locations close to Chennai.
