Report: State TV depicts cotton farmers

The national TV of Burkina Faso has resumed broadcasting after being cut off due to reports of shooting in the nation’s capital, Ouagadougou.

The TV station is airing a story about cotton farming, according to a journalist watching the coverage, and there are no news of a possible coup attempt.

There have been numerous coup attempts, according to Burkinabe analysts and local media.

In the city, Ouagadougou, there have been reports of intense shooting, and the state broadcaster, La Radiodiffusion Télévision du Burkina, has halted operations.

Gunfire at Baba Sy Military Barracks has caused panic, and there are claims that the state broadcasting facility is being surrounded by soldiers.

In a coup in January, the current ruler, Lt-Col Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, took control.

Lt. Col. Damiba said in a speech to the UN General Assembly last week that the country’s survival was at stake following the coup in January.

 

Reuters: There was a big explosion close to the presidential residence.

According to witnesses, a sizable explosion was heard close to Burkina Faso’s presidential palace in the nation’s capital, Ouagadougou, according to the Reuters news agency.

It coincides with earlier reports of a significant troop deployment along the key thoroughfares leading to the presidential residence and the military junta’s administrative center.

Lt-Col Paul-Henri Damiba, the nation’s commander, is reportedly at the nation’s capital.
