As part of its efforts to encourage exports, the government will increase the productive capacity in the real sector of the economy and actively promote the consumption of locally produced goods like rice, poultry, vegetable oil, and fruit juices, among others, according to Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, who last week presented the 2023 Budget to Parliament.

The MoUs, which were signed by Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, Executive Chairman of JGC, while he was leading a delegation from his organisation to Thailand, will make it easier for Ghana to establish centres for seed development and research, rice mechanisation, bio-organic fertiliser production, the supply of farm equipment, and rice mills.

When the aforementioned facilities are finished, the nation’s rice production will increase and its reliance on imports will fall sharply.

The first group of the technical team from Thailand will arrive in Ghana in December of this year, according to the JGC.

The agreements were reached after a team from JGC, led by its Executive Chairman, Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, visited Thailand.
