A Nissan Murano, which was parked in Phillip Hill’s driveway when it caught fire.

There was an outstanding unrepaired recall for the Hills’ Murano, according to a search on the NHTSA website. The couple claimed that a local fire investigator had speculated that the fire might have been started by the unfixed recall.

However, the Hills can recall having the work done, and they even gave CNN a picture of the receipt from a nearby Nissan dealership proving the repair was completed. CNN has not verified the authenticity of the receipt.

The Hills said that they had not considered the potential of a fire because the recall work had already been completed.

The couple’s two automobiles were parked in the driveway while Philip Hill worked on repairs to the garage. If not, the Murano would have been parked in the garage that is next to the residence.

Philip Hill told CNN, “As you can see from the video, that vehicle is so close to the house.” “The house could have gone up minutes later.”

As that happened, they claimed, the garage door melted due to the fire. The Hills and their three kids believe that they were saved by the dog of a neighbor. Her dog notified the neighbor, who was able to contact 911 before the hills.

The 2012 Mercedes C-Class, the family’s other vehicle, sustained irreversible damage to its side from the powerful flames from the burning Nissan.
