When asked whether X has any measures in place to prevent Grok from creating possibly false representations of political candidates, X did not immediately react.

As of Friday, it seems like xAI had implemented certain limitations on Grok in reaction to negative reports and the unsettling photos that users were producing and sharing.

Users have noted that the tool appears to be restricted to specific terms and image subjects, but it currently refuses to create images of political candidates or well-known cartoon characters (whose intellectual property belongs to other companies) engaging in violent acts or alongside hate speech symbols.

Although it’s unclear how the policy is implemented, X has a policy prohibiting sharing “synthetic, manipulated, or out-of-context media that may deceive or confuse people and lead to harm.”

Last month, Musk posted a video on X whereby artificial intelligence was employed to fabricate the appearance that Harris had said things that she had not, ostensibly in violation of policy. The sole emoji used to indicate to Musk’s followers that the video was phony was a laughing face.

Along with the release of the new Grok image tool, Musk has come under fire for his continuous propagation of untrue and deceptive statements on X regarding the presidential election, including a post that questioned the security of voting machines. Additionally, it occurs just a few days after Musk hosted Trump for a live, two-hour discussion on X during which the Republican candidate made at least twenty false statements without receiving any rebuttal from Musk.
