Rosemond Alade Brown, aka Akuapem Poloo, a convicted actress and social media star, is returning to prison to complete her 90-day sentence after her appeal was dismissed by the Accra High Court.

An Accra Circuit Court sentenced the controversial actress to prison for releasing a naked photo of herself with her seven-year-old son who was only wearing underwear.

Her counsel appealed the court’s decision to give her a prison sentence rather than a fine, claiming that the sentence was too punitive.

Akuapem Poloo was found guilty and sentenced on three counts: publishing obscene materials, engaging in domestic violence, namely conduct that detracts or is likely to detract from another person’s dignity and worth as a human being, and engaging in domestic violence, namely conduct that in any way undermines another person’s privacy or integrity.

She filed an appeal against the sentence, as well as a request for bail awaiting the appeal, both of which the court has approved.

However, the appeal was dismissed by the Accra High Court, which was presided over by Justice Ruby Aryeety, on the grounds that the trial court’s sentence was not manifestly excessive.

She stated that the Court will not interfere with the Circuit Court’s sentencing, which was intended to act as a deterrence to other parents who might consider doing the same thing.

While the convicted actress serves her sentence, Justice Artyeetey ruled that Akuapem Polooe’s child be provided to any competent member in her family to care for.

On June 30, 2020, Akuapem Poloo was hauled into court after she posted a naked photo of herself with her son on social media to celebrate the boy’s birthday.
