Because of the smoke that cooks inhale, cooking has put the lives of mothers and sisters in Ghana and most of Africa at risk. This is because in the majority of our communities, firewood and charcoal are used for cooking.

Since women typically cook in our homes, the smoke from burning firewood and charcoal in the kitchen promotes lung cancer and heart disease in them. She added that prolonged use of tobacco weakens us and has an adverse effect on our eyes.

According to a study, the use of dirty fuels kills over 18,000 people in Ghana each year. It also has an influence on the rest of the globe since it pollutes the air and contributes to global warming, particularly when trees are cut down.

This is the reason the government has consistently pushed LPG as a safer, healthier, and cleaner alternative fuel for cooking.

LPG cooks faster and better, saves time, and doesn’t emit any smoke when used in the kitchen. It also keeps our utensils and kitchen clean.

Research has proven that LPG is eventually less expensive than charcoal, despite the common belief that it is expensive.

Firewood is more expensive than LPG or any other fuel because, even if it may be given to us for free, we must be aware that the illnesses the smoke might cause can endanger our lives,” she continued.

Madam Asante made the suggestion that the government hopes to provide LPG access to 50% of Ghanaians by 2030 for cooking purposes.

According to the NPA Deputy CEO, the CRM is a productive way to distribute LPG because it gets the fuel closer to consumers, takes care of safety concerns, and adds jobs as the value chain grows.
