At the end of the voting, attorney Evans Amankwa won 572 votes, while existing chairman Augustus Nana Akwasi Andrews received 637 votes to keep his post. Another candidate, Yaw Owusu Obimpeh, came in third with 137 votes.
The practise of Ghanaian politicians buying voters with money and other gifts, which skews election results in favour of the highest bidder, worries a lot of people. Analysts have demanded that the practise halt.
NDC lawyer admits, “I spent over Gh1 million but lost the election, yet I have no regrets.”
