He noted that other party officials and appointees would be discouraged if President Akufo-Addo took action.

He claimed that in order to “throw the burden on Chiefs and MMDCEs,” the President and the Minister of Lands had done so.

He continued by calling President Akufo-attempt Addo’s to place the responsibility on the Chiefs “shameful and must be denounced.”

“There was no way he could transfer or split the responsibility for his unsuccessful ‘galamsey’ fight. Sammy Gyamfi emphasised at the press conference that “he was the one who placed his presidency on the line and he would be held accountable for the unsuccessful fight.”

Ghana appears to be losing the battle against galamsey as the country’s numerous water bodies have become contaminated and the water’s colour has changed to a milky brown.

At a gathering of chiefs on October 5 in the Ashanti region, President Akufo-Addo acknowledged that the battle against Galamsey had not been an easy one and committed to deal with any members of his government who could have participated in illegal mining activities.

The President claimed that because the government has been battling “galamsey” for many years, officials cannot keep compromising efforts to stop the threat.

“I am not here to threaten anyone, but I want you to know that I take this struggle extremely seriously and that I will not be able to defend anyone whose proof of their involvement in this case is tainted…

As a lawyer, I deal with facts all the time. If those facts are used against you, you will be given the opportunity to respond.
The President stated, “You can anticipate what the consequences will be if the response is not satisfactory.

He also acknowledged that Ghana has not yet been effective in stopping illegal mining.

“Since I entered office on January 7, 2017, over 6 years ago, I have prioritised leading the fight to rid our nation of this threat that we all now refer to as “galamsey.”
